Preguntas Frecuentes
What is the difference between markup and margin?
Markup is profit as a percentage of cost; margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price. A 50% markup equals a 33% margin — they’re never the same number.
How do you calculate markup?
Selling price = cost × (1 + markup %). For example, a $100 item with a 50% markup sells for $150, a $50 profit per unit.
What is a good markup percentage?
It varies by industry — retail often runs 50–100%, services can be higher, commodities lower. Price to your value and market, not a single rule.
Why does margin matter more than markup?
Margin tells you what share of each sale you actually keep. Two businesses with the same markup can have very different margins depending on how they quote it.
How do I convert markup to margin?
Margin = markup ÷ (1 + markup). A 25% markup is a 20% margin; a 100% markup is a 50% margin. This calculator shows both automatically.
