Preguntas Frecuentes
How do you calculate take-home pay?
Start with gross salary, subtract pre-tax deductions, then subtract income tax (on the reduced amount) and FICA (on gross). What remains is your estimated take-home.
What is FICA and how much is it?
FICA funds Social Security and Medicare — the employee share is 7.65% of wages (6.2% + 1.45%). High earners pay an extra 0.9% Medicare surtax above a threshold.
What effective tax rate should I enter?
Your effective rate is total income tax ÷ gross income — usually lower than your top bracket. For many US earners it lands around 12–24% federal plus state.
Why do pre-tax deductions increase take-home efficiency?
401k and pre-tax health premiums reduce your taxable income, so you’re taxed on less. You take home a bit less cash but save on taxes and build benefits.
Is this an exact paycheck amount?
No — it’s an estimate using a single effective rate. Actual withholding depends on filing status, allowances, state, and local taxes. Use it for planning, not tax filing.
