Comedy Nuggets
Building a Brand for Toronto’s Live Comedy Community
Overview
Comedy Nuggets is a Toronto live-comedy destination — stand-up, sketch, and improv — established in 2017 and producing most of its shows at Comedy Bar and SoCap Comedy Theatre across the east and west ends of the city, with online performances for audiences beyond Toronto.
The Challenge
A live-comedy brand has two audiences to win at once: the venue needs a clear, recognizable identity that turns a rotating monthly line-up into a repeat destination, and the comedians performing there need visibility for their individual shows. Comedy Nuggets wanted to strengthen its brand identity and grow audience engagement across its platforms and events without losing the intimate, community-driven feel that made it work.
The goal: position Comedy Nuggets as a go-to comedy destination in Toronto while lifting the profiles of the talent building shows on its stages.
Our Approach
We took a holistic approach — combining strategic communications, branding, and marketing to support the venue and its talent together, rather than treating them as separate campaigns. The work extended well beyond promoting individual events: it built Comedy Nuggets into a recognizable comedy brand and a destination for live stand-up in Toronto.
1. A Recognizable Comedy Brand
We positioned Comedy Nuggets as one of Toronto’s premier live-comedy experiences — a consistent identity applied across its platforms and events so a first-time attendee and a regular saw the same brand.
- A clear brand narrative positioning Comedy Nuggets as a Toronto comedy destination
- Emphasis on its diverse lineup of stand-up, sketch, and improv performances
- Positioning as a home for both emerging and established comedians at venues such as Comedy Bar and SoCap Comedy Theatre
2. Audience Engagement
We focused on improving how Comedy Nuggets connected with its audience — turning attention on its platforms into attendance at its monthly line-up across the city and its online shows.
3. Media Outreach & Communications
Through branding, strategic communications, media outreach, and promotional campaigns, we built the venue’s public presence while highlighting the comedians appearing on its stages to elevate the visibility of their shows.
Featured Campaign: Luke Lynndale — Live Comedy Show & Album Recording
We led publicity for comedian Luke Lynndale’s Live Comedy Show & Album Recording, positioning the show as a must-see live-entertainment experience while generating awareness for both the artist and Comedy Nuggets. The campaign highlighted his career as a stand-up comedian, writer, and actor:
- Appearances at the Salem Comedy Festival
- “Best of Fest” at the Comedy Chateau International Comedy Festival
- His national touring schedule
- Upcoming headlining performances
4. Supporting the Talent
Comedy Nuggets featured an impressive roster of comedians during this period — including Luke Lynndale, Abbas Wahab, Ali Hassan, Andrew Packer, Che Durena, Hassan Phills, Gavin Stephens, Edworld B. Kim, Sandy MacFarlane, Habib Siam, Nathan Teixeira, and Mitch Gladney, among many others across its programming. By collaborating with the performers directly, a stronger venue brand and stronger individual profiles reinforced each other.
